Susan carefully wipes the mud from her boots before coming in from her morning archery practice. It's not warm out, but it's wet, and she's got rather mucked up whilst retrieving arrows. Her first stop is to deposit her dirty clothes in the hamper in her closet - which has seemed to expand even further since Lancelot moved in - to be washed immediately after she washes herself. Before she can shower, though, she must first wipe the arrows down, and then her bow. Then, to stay on the safe side, she sets about unstringing the bow so she can hang it and her coil of string with her other bows.

When she goes to start coiling the string, however, there's a tug on the other end. She frowns and kneels down. There's a flash of color, and then a flare of pain. She stares at her hand and the scratch across the back of it, and then at the culprit.

"Oh, aren't you a beauty," she breathes, reaching out to the Siamese cat tucked away between Lancelot's shoes. "Wherever did you come from?"

It takes her a good ten minutes to coax the cat out, and another ten to coax it into her arms. It's a girl, and not a kitten, though she does have a whiff of kittenhood still about her. "Do you belong to anyone?" Susan asks, but the cat isn't a Talking Beast, and doesn't answer.

Right. The first order of business shall be getting the cat some food. The second order of business shall be inventorying the residents to see if anyone has lost a cat she somehow hadn't caught wind of. She's nearly out the door when she realizes she's largely nude and still covered in streaks of mud, and carefully eases the cat onto the bed, instead. her actual first order of business ought to be washing quickly and getting dressed again. Then onto the rest of it.

Typist note: This is technically being posted as an interlude, given that Enjolras is doing an open post on the same topic at the same time, but if anyone wants to thread meeting Susan's new cat, I am MORE than happy to... I just don't want to overwhelm anyone!

"Living creatures. Insects and the like."

"What are you learning about them?" Mothwing can't imagine a use for insects besides as a snack.

"Right now we're just trying to sort out what we've got here, but ultimately I hope to use it to inform gardening this spring, so that we might prepare for next Dark."

"Oh. I do suppose all creatures and plants are related. I have a herb store, as well, if you need anything in the meantime."

"I shall take you upon that," says Susan, warmly.

"You're growing plants to eat, right? I know twolegs do that."

"I mean, I shan't, personally," says Susan. "That's not where my strengths lie; I shall leave the growing to those with a knack for it. But in general... yes. We intend to grow more of our food."

"I'm just surprised they taste good," Mothwing mutters. "Can't beat fish, in my opinion."

"I prefer fish, too," Susan confides. "But humans are omnivores; we require fruits, vegetables, and grains."

"Seems like a lot of work." Mothwing hopes Susan can hear the amused note in her voice. "And no fun to hunt, either. Plants don't even try to hide."

"Yes; it's ever so dull," Susan agrees, with a small amused smile. And, as something occurs to her, "Mothwing, I've just had a thought - but I shouldn't want you to take offense."

"I'll decide that once you've said it," Mothwing meows drily.

"I know you're rather a capable hunter," says Susan. "But I should like to move on from target practice to occasionally hunting small game again. I haven't, as it seemed rather a waste... but if you could use the meat..."

"I'm not offended," Mothwing meows, though she might have been if someone besides Susan had suggested this. "That's more like adding to the fresh-kill pile than just giving me twoleg food, you know?"

"If it's not useful to you, I shall find an alternate solution," Susan says. "But you would be doing me a tremendous favor."

"No, it is useful. I only meant... well, it's shameful in the Clans to take help from twolegs. But it's not like you're a twoleg, you're a fellow Clanmate. So I'd be happy for the fresh-kill."

"Oh!" says Susan, very touched indeed. "Thank you, Mothwing."

"I do sometimes have to hunt in advance to fit in all my activities," Mothwing meows. "I don't think cats, or twolegs, are meant to live alone and only hunt for themselves, really."

"No, I believe we're meant to live in community," says Susan. "Everyone must have a role so that no one must fill all roles."

"Exactly. This is why I think you'd make a good clan leader."

"You're terribly kind," Susan demurs. "I believe those days might be behind me."

"Aren't so many days behind us," Mothwing sighs.

"Oh, indeed."

"Did you ever have a kittypet before?"

"Never once," Susan admits. "I had friends who did, and naturally I like cats very much, but I've not had any pets of my own."
