"I hope you know I feel the same way," says Susan, reaching to pat his chest. "Do you know, you already made me feel like a whole person again for the first time after - after everything, when we were just pursuing friendship? I like to think that if you never asked to kiss me, your mere friendship might still have made me miles happier than I ever thought I might be again. But," she adds, tone softening from conspiratorial to besotted, "I'm ever so grateful and glad, every day, that you did."
